Hold an alligator, cruise through the Everglades in an airboat and pet chickens, ducks and potbellied pigs. Book at tour with Sawgrass Recreation Park and take a 1.5-hour ride through Everglades National Park. Learn the history of the swampland and even get to see alligators up close. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and allow ample time for pictures and questions. Because one family runs the business they are very hospitable and can even make teenagers have a great time on the trip. When you return from your airboat ride go inside the animal exhibits (this is included in your airboat ride) and meet their alligators, iguanas, white alligator and white Bengal tiger, Athena. Staff is outside each exhibit to teach you the history of the animals, help with pictures, and answer any questions you may have.
To see the homes of the rich and famous along the canals of Ft. Lauderdale you need to take Carrie B’s sightseeing cruise. Reservations are not required. The captain is entertaining and will tell you all the gossip about each home and the famous resident inside. Be sure to walk around the Sun Deck to catch the best views of Ft. Lauderdale and the homes. Light snacks are served on the ship as well.
Spend an early morning or late afternoon strolling through the serene shady tree-lined gardens of the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens. Tip: The best time to photograph the grounds is during the morning when the light is trickling through the trees. No photos can be taken in the house.
For dinner and a show head to Laffing Matterz, a new type of vaudeville. Enjoy a great dinner and drinks while the actors make fun of everyday stereotypes and even impersonate news anchors and politicians. Known for their hilarious satire this is a great way to spend an evening with friends. Reservations are required for this popular show. Their menu has been rated one of the top for dinner theaters by local magazines and their drink list is extensive and filled with unique concoctions.
Located just feet from the ocean the massive International Swimming Hall of Fame showcases all swimming legends and holds hundreds of trophies. Learn about the history of any water sport from swimming to diving to water polo. See the original Olympic flag and learn about the health benefits of swimming. This shrine to incredible athletes is a great place to spend the afternoon.
