San Francisco Shopping

Whether you’re looking for unique little boutiques with hard to find fashions or huge department stores that carry all the essentials, you’ll find your San Francisco shopping experience to be an interesting one with many sights to see along the way. One thing’s for sure, you definitely won’t go home empty handed.

Financial District/ Union Square
This area is the most famous area to do your shopping in San Francisco, where you’ll find well-known department stores like Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks and Nordstrom. You’ll also find a variety of different shopping centers to choose from, and you can discover other stores that have wonderful finds as well. Stroll through Rincon Center to discover many different shops, or browse through Williams Sonoma to find acres of house ware. At Thomas Pink you’ll find upscale clothing, while at Britex you’ll discover one of the largest fabric stores on the west coast. Make sure to make a stop in Embarcadero Center or the Ferry Building for other San Francisco shopping opportunities.

Haight Street
Haight Street is generally known for it’s bohemian atmosphere and hippie culture. You can find a variety of unique little stores as well as larger, more popular stores. For example, check out Amoeba music to find a huge music selection, with a large sample of Indie music, or duck into the hole in the wall record store F8 to find a tiny little music haven where you can awaken your musical experience! Be sure to browse through Booksmith, an independent book store famous for its events program, or discover Life, where you can get your hand painted with Henna in the Henna lounge and buy wonderful, spoil-yourself-treats like scented oils, aromatherapy, candles and much more.

Fisherman’s Wharf
You’ll find five different shopping centers at Fisherman’s Wharf to do your San Francisco Shopping, including the Anchorage Shopping Center, where you’ll find over 30 specialty shops and restaurants, and North Point Shopping Center, which is less for tourist buys but more for basic needs. Along the Wharf and the side streets, you’ll discover a plethora of souvenir shops, craft stores, jewelry stores, T-shirt stores and candy shops.

Tip: The best shopping for gifts and souvenirs would be in Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can find all kinds of San Francisco memorabilia that represent many different areas of the city.

Other Shopping Areas
Some of the more hidden little shopping areas to do your San Francisco shopping include the neighborhoods dotted with boutiques, cafes and nightlife. Discover these areas on Irving Street in the Sunset, or Union Street in Cow Hollow. Many gorgeous little boutiques are found on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights. Try browsing around 24th Street in Noe Valley or Mission Street in the Mission district to do your San Francisco shopping!
If you’re looking for shopping centers, cruise on into San Francisco Shopping Center, featuring over 65 leading retail stores like J. Crew or Abercrombie & Fitch, or go to Hillsdale Shopping Area to find over 130 big name stores including Nordstrom, Banana Republic, and many other specialty stores.
