Seattle’s landmarks became world-renowned with television sitcoms and Hollywood movies. Check out some of these wonderful attractions.
Landmarks and Icons
Of the most recognized Seattle attractions is the Space Needle. This structure resembles a needle and has a rotating restaurant at the top. Its surrounding area is a site for concerts.
Columbia Center is another important icon in that it represents the city’s progress and fine architecture. It’s the tallest skyscraper in the Pacific Northwest.
Pike Place Market ranks among the top Seattle attractions and it’s the oldest farmer’s market in the United States. It overlooks Elliot Bay making it more attractive for visitors to shop for handicrafts and collectibles.
The Fremont Troll is an unusual icon, yet one of the most visited. It’s a representation of public art. You’ll see it tucked beneath a bridge.
The Seattle Central Library is an eleven-storey monumental testimony of creativity and design. It was chosen as one of the best structures in the Country.
Culture
Don’t miss the Olympic Sculpture Park with its nine waterfront acres of sculptures. It’s a must see.
And another must among Seattle attractions is the Experience Music Project. It relates the history and exploration of popular music. In the same area you can visit the Science Fiction and Hall of Fame museums. Both offer very interesting displays.
The Seattle Art Museum, with its permanent exhibits of Asian, African and Native American art, is among the favorite Seattle attractions.
And if you’re traveling with your children, they’ll enjoy a visit to the Pacific Science Center. Its five buildings of exhibits allow for active participation and observation. There are two IMAX theaters, a planetarium and a butterfly center. This Seattle attraction is a rave among kids of all ages as well as adults.
One of the most visited museums in the United States is the Museum of Flight. It’s the biggest air and space exhibit in the West Coast. It showcases 54 airplanes in excellent condition. There’s also a steel and glass gallery with full size planes as seen flying during maneuvers. It’s among top Seattle attractions.
Other places of interest include the Small Craft Museum. It displays a collection of over 100 wooden boats of historical importance.
Nature
The Tillicum Indian Village is an interesting site if you’re interested in Seattle’s history. This beautiful marine state park is said to be the place where Indian chief Seattle was born.
Don’t miss a stroll through Discovery Park. It’s the largest of Seattle attractions and a great place for a relaxing day in the sun. But if your visit to the city coincides with the winter season, a trip to Cascade Range or Olympic Mountains is an enjoyable choice. They’re both known as superb venues for snow sports.
Take a ferry boat across the bay or spend the day at Woodland Park Zoo. Observe hundreds of specimens of fauna and flora indigenous to the northwest. Or if you prefer to discover the treasures of the Pacific, the Seattle Aquarium is a must see Seattle attraction.
