If You’re Going to San Francisco…

April 18th, 2013

When you come to visit this famous and beautiful city by the coast, you’ll find a serious wealth of culture, history, and diversity. This city has become a tourist hot spot with many famous landmarks that travelers from all across the globe come to see. Some of the most famous land marks in San Francisco include the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge, this country’s most authentic China town, and the breathtaking steep, rolling hills of San Francisco. Marvel at the mystery of Alcatraz, the famous prison in which all thought was inescapable, until one man shocked even the highest trained security officers. Tour the city via the famous cable cars to see the enchanting mix of modern and Victorian architecture, and be sure to catch a glimpse of the Coit tower. Don’t miss out on Potrero Hill, where you’ll enjoy the sweeping view of downtown San Francisco.

Established as the city of San Francisco in 1847, the California Gold Rush in 1848 transformed the city into the largest city on the West Coast at the time. Today, this multi-layered city carries a mix of all kinds of people and cultures, and the neighborhoods display the same diversity. In the Financial District where Union Square is located, you’ll find the main shopping area and hotel district in very close proximity. At Fisherman’s Wharf, be sure to try some of the famous clam chowder and Dungeness crab at this ever thriving fishing industry. In the same area, you’ll hit upon Russian Hill, where the well known, crooked and striking Lombard Street is found, as well as North Beach, the city’s mini-Italy. Telegraph Hill, also nearby, is the area you’ll find Coit Tower. The Tenderloin is infamous for most of the crime and poverty found in San Francisco. Be sure to observe the gorgeous murals found in the Mission District, and come see the Castro to appreciate the center of gay life in the community.

The city of San Francisco is a well known lure for counterculture in the United States, mainly due to the many mass movements that have occurred there, giving it the reputation of being the liberal center of the States. In the 1950’s and 60’s, the San Francisco Renaissance was encouraged by the Beat Generation writers, and soon hippies gathered to Haight-Ashbury resulting in the famous Summer of Love and the Gay Rights Movement. The writers and artists who came to the area established the modern coffee house culture, and the social upheaval of the 60’s led San Francisco to become the center of liberal activism.

The mix of cultures and communities in this melting pot of an area has led to the emergence of a thriving artistic and active community, where acceptance and respect are major attitudes that most members value. Another positive feature of this city is the fact that the weather is good all year long. The winters are mild and so there’s really no time of the year that is unsuitable for a trip. So come to visit this amazing city, and be sure to give yourself plenty of time to visit all the wonderful attractions and hot spots it has to offer.

Featured Hotel: Edinburgh Tune

April 2nd, 2013

Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, draped across a series of rocky hills overlooking the sea. It’s a town intimately entwined with its landscape, with buildings and monuments perched atop crags and overshadowed by cliffs - in the words of Robert Louis Stevenson, ‘a dream in masonry and living rock’. From the Old Town’s picturesque jumble of medieval tenements piled high along the Royal Mile, its turreted skyline strung between the black, bull-nosed Castle Rock and the russet palisade of Salisbury Crags, to the New Town’s neat grid of neoclassical respectability, all columns and capitals, porticoes and pediments, the city offers a constantly changing perspective. And it’s all small enough to explore easily on foot.

Edinburgh Tune Hotel

One of our favorite hotels in Edinburgh is the Tune Hotel Haymarket, which is directly across the road from the entrance to Haymarket Rail Station and centrally located to all the main attractions in the city. Tune Hotel Haymarket is just a mere 15 minutes’ walk to Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street which is the main shopping street in Edinburgh. Other attractions include Edinburgh International Conference Centre (only 7 minutes’ walk away), Murrayfield Stadium and Edinburgh Zoo is just a short 8 minutes’ drive away.

Two of our favorite hotels in Florida

March 19th, 2013

In one of our recent posts about Spring Break vacation, we discussed some of our favorite hotels to travel to during this spring. In this post will take a closer look at two cool hotels in Florida, which we all know is a place that can party with the best!

Wyndham Garden Clearwater Beach hotel, which is located not far from the beautiful Tampa Bay, is nestled right on a charming and private 260-foot white sand beach. This hotel is a perfect blend of contemporary amenities with impeccable service for the ultimate Clearwater Beach getaway. Atlanta Hotels

March 19th, 2013
Atlanta hotels offer everything a savvy traveler would want while preserving the traditions of a bygone era. The Georgian Terrace, for instance, is a fine example of historic Atlanta hotels and of great value for your money. Its construction dates to 1911 and while boasting old world ambience it affords guests all the modern conveniences. It’s situated across from the fox Theater, not far from the Centennial Olympic Park or the downtown area. If you’re in Atlanta for other than leisure, the hotel’s business center will come in handy. And in the rooms, you’ll have access to all the necessary perks such as high speed Internet. You may relax by the rooftop pool or work out at the fitness center. If you have any requests, the concierge will be happy to assist you. And feel free to bring your pets. Like in many Atlanta hotels, they’re invited too.

The Hilton Atlanta is another hotel that boasts a central location in the heart of downtown Atlanta. It’s within a walking distance of some of the best attractions in the city, including the Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center and the Georgia World Congress Center. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is just a 15 minute drive from the Atlanta hotel.

Hilton Atlanta

The Comfort Suites are yet another excellent choice in inexpensive Atlanta hotels. It’s within a short distance of popular attractions like Six Flags Water Park, the Georgia Aquarium, Cumberland Mall and underground Atlanta. Most two star Atlanta hotels keep the frills to a minimum without compromising on comfort or service. But at the Comfort Suites, you’ll be delighted to know that all accommodations have wireless Internet, microwave oven, refrigerator and cable television. There’s an outdoor pool and business center as well.

Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead is set within the upscale uptown neighborhood of Buckhead. Renovated guestrooms include state-of-the-art Internet access, and sleek flat screen HDTVs with Roomlinx interactive iTV. You can also enjoy views of the Japanese Zen Garden.

But if staying in one of the luxurious Atlanta hotels is what you desire, the selection is truly impressive. The Omni Hotel at the CNN Center, for example, recently underwent a one hundred million dollar renovation. It’s one of the Four Diamond Atlanta hotels and is situated in the heart of the city. It connects to the Phillips Arena and Georgia World Congress Center. It’s also the only one of the Atlanta hotels to enjoy close proximity to the Georgia Dome. This award winning establishment welcomes visitors with elegant rooms and suites. They’re fitted with the best amenities and serviced with the highest level of attention in the industry.

Atlanta hotels are everything you can possibly want and more.

Whirlwind weekend in Vegas

February 24th, 2011

Travel is great in small or large doses (I prefer larger doses). But when you can’t get away for that long trip, a couple shorts trips can certainly suffice; which led my husband and I to lively Las Vegas. The best part about Sin City? Just two days is plenty! It’s long enough to get away from the daily grind, but short enough that you don’t feel totally exhausted.

We arrived Friday mid-morning and started the day by exploring our hotel resort. This weekend we chose to stay at Bellagio (I found a good deal on our site). We shopped, then dined in the Palazzo’s Dos Caminos–A New York restaurant we love, now also living on the West Coast. We finished dinner in plenty of time for Holly Madison’s super fun show at Planet Hollywood.

The next day began with massages at Bellagio Spa (any spa service gives you all-day access to the lovely spa), lunch next door at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel, shopping at nearby Caesars Palace, back to the spa to take advantage of the relaxing sauna (quite a nice retreat after the barrage of crowds on The Strip), and we finished the night with dinner and a show at our hotel.

All that in two days! What would you do with just 48 hours in Vegas?
