Looking for great gifts and souvenirs to bring back home? Searching for that special piece of jewelry or other unique purchase? Then Cairns shopping is for you, as you’ll be sure to discover some distinctive and enjoyable finds to take home with you from your journey.

Shopping Centers

Within Cairns, you’ll find a wide variety of different shopping centers in both the tourist area and within the suburbs to do all of your Cairns shopping. One large shopping spot you’ll find is Cairns Central Shopping Centre. It’s a new edition to Cairns located in the business district, where you’ll find hundreds of specialty stores, gifts and souvenirs, department stores, and even some live entertainment on certain occasions. An even larger shopping center (possibly the largest in Cairns) is Stockland Shopping Centre, located along Mulgrave Road. This is where most locals do their Cairns shopping and you’ll find a large variety of different goods to buy, including your basic grocery shopping. In suburbs farther from the city center, you’ll find shopping centers in Mount Sheridan, Redlynch, Smithfield and Clifton Beach.

Business District

In what is known as the “City Heart” of Cairns, shoppers will discover an array of jewelers, T-shirt shops, duty free stores, retail outlets and gifts and souvenirs for all occasions. Along Lake Street, you’ll find marvelous handicrafts and gifts, with unique items like didgeridoo’s and boomerangs. Within this area, you’ll be doing your Cairns shopping amidst many cafes and eateries where you can stop to rest your tired feet and relax with your new treasures!

Tip: If it’s specifically jewelry you’re looking for when Cairns shopping, you can find shops on the Torre Strait that have real, grade-A pearls with a wide price range; however, it will always be cheaper than US or European priced pearls.

Plazas/ Marketplace

The plazas and marketplaces you’ll come across are wonderful to stroll through where you can take your time with your Cairns shopping experience. At the Pier Market Place, you’ll find eateries and cafes along with the assortment of fashion, souvenirs and art. In addition, take pleasure in the Undersea World, where you can glimpse the marvels of the natural underworld of the Great Barrier Reef. In Orchid Plaza, you’ll also discover a fine selection of retail stores, gifts and souvenirs, jewelry, and the post office for sending your post cards home.

Local Markets

Stop by Rusty’s Market on the weekend to find a wide variety of locally grown produce and some exotic fruits. The market is located between Grafton and Sheridan, and many locals do their food shopping here for reasonable prices. You’ll also find art and souvenirs here as well. Stroll through the Night Market on the Esplanade, where jewelry, souvenirs, novelties, and much more will catch your interest. The Mud Market is where you want to do your Cairns shopping for gifts, located along the Pier Marketplace.

No matter what you’re in search of, you’ll agree that the Cairns shopping experience is one not to be missed.
