Cape Town Overview

Cape Town is not only the mother city of Africa but it’s considered one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The city’s history and culture is reflected in its beautiful architecture, fabulous cuisine, as well as its dance and music. Cape Town is a great destination whatever time of year you visit, as it enjoys warm summers and temperate winters.

Cape Town enjoys a privileged location, surrounded by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans, thus making it one of the world’s best spots for big game fishing. With one of the most famous breeding grounds for Great White sharks, those in need of an adrenalin rush can enjoy an afternoon of cage diving. And speaking of adrenalin rush, Cape Town’s great high bridges offer some of the best bungee jumping sites, as well as great white water rafting, hiking and mountain biking. The city has something for everyone, and if you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors in a more sedate manner, you can enjoy canoeing, world-class golfing or taking in the rays at one of the stunning white sandy beaches that border the Cape’s peninsula.

You can’t visit Cape Town without a trip up the impressive Table Top Mountain, surrounded by the famous Devil’s Peak and the historical Signal Hill. This magnificent icon of South Africa watches proudly above the city. Visitors usually take the cable car ride up, or choose any of the 350 paths up to the summit, some more challenging than others.

But fear not, Cape Town is not just a place for those who love the great outdoors. There is plenty to do, and much to enjoy. This city boasts interesting museums and galleries as well as great shopping opportunities in beautifully designed shopping centers.

Among the most important museums is the Cape Town Holocaust Centre, a place of remembrance for the six million Jews who lost their lives in the Holocaust, and serves as an important institution aimed at fighting anti-Semitism as well as all forms of prejudice and discrimination. Another iconic museum is the South African Museum, the oldest in capturing the history of Africa, which houses amazing displays, including a fossilized human footprint, about 117,000 years old.

This city is home to beautiful shopping centers with the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront as the most popular among these. Its architecture, in Chinese and Renaissance styles makes this a place of beauty with a great atmosphere, not to mention, fabulous shopping.

The cuisine in this South African city has been influenced by the Malay kitchen, the first colonist providing fresh ingredients from the Dutch West Indies. Some of these dishes include curries, bobotie and sweet and sticky koeksisters. Here you’ll find elegant restaurants as well as fast food places. Several districts around town offer superb gastronomic treats as well as an exciting nightlife. You’ll also find exciting international restaurants from most parts of the world such as Mexico, Morocco, France and Holland.

With so many choices, Cape Town can be the perfect vacation for you.
