Cape Town Shopping

A vacation to Cape Town must include several trips to the amazing shopping centers in the city. If not for the shopping, visitors will enjoy the beautiful architecture and incredible activities that some of these centers offer. However, the shopping opportunities will not disappoint you.

Most Cape Town shopping includes large clothing stores like Edgars, and Woolworth, found in most shopping centers. Stuttafords is another fabulous clothing store, a bit pricier than the two above, but still fabulous, also found at most shopping centers.

Shopping Centers
The most popular and visited shopping center is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront Mall, a beautiful complex with a unique harbor atmosphere and its well kept historical buildings. It offers great shopping as well as great entertainment. Here, visitors can see two ocean aquariums, take a scenic helicopter ride, take a harbor tour on a boat or watch a movie at the IMAX. It’s truly a great shopping experience and a shopper’s paradise in the whole sense of the word.

Canal Walk, part of Century City, is yet another one of these impressive sites for great Cape Town shopping. It’s a beautiful center built with a combination of two great styles of architecture, Chinese and Renaissance. With over 400 shops, restaurants and cinemas, you’ll definitely find something to suit your fancy.

The St. George Mall is a pedestrian zone located between Castle Street and Adderley Street, lined with historical buildings, and great shops. There is a section with stalls displaying ethnic clothes, arts and crafts. It’s another example of great Cape Town shopping.

Tip: Haggling for prizes can only be done in open African markets and while you’ll be able to find beautiful ivory in this city, its export is forbidden.

For smaller scale Cape Town shopping, Cavendish Square has fewer shops but fabulous fashion clothing. This great place is frequented by a more affluent clientele.

Make sure to visit the many markets in the city and compare the prices. In some cases you’ll get better values at open markets like Red Shed Market on the waterfront, Pan African market in Long Street and Green Market Square. You can shop for wonderful gifts, clothes and one of a kind African art. Haggling is a way to obtain big discounts, a fun way to enjoy Cape Town shopping.

Cape Town shopping is a lot more fun when in search for special treats. Talented goldsmiths and designers make fabulous jewelry a must for everyone looking to take a memento of a great vacation.

Textiles are another great buy, price worthy and excellent in quality. Don’t miss great soft buttery leathers as well as sports and outdoor wear; this is some of the best in Cape Town shopping.

Make sure to write yourself a note to serve as reminder, that when you visit Table Top Mountain you get to the souvenir shop, where you’ll find fabulous presents for yourself and your friends. With all the beauty around you, you might forget to shop!
