Clearwater Attractions

Visitors come to Clearwater for its world-class beaches as well as its long list of attractions.  You can see these by foot, or you may choose to view the Clearwater attractions from a hot air balloon.

Nature
Clearwater attractions are famous for their connection with nature.  At Caladesi Island State Park, everyone in the family can enjoy the array of activities which range from fishing to boating.  There are three miles of scenic trails and along the way you can stop for a picnic.

Another popular Clearwater attraction is the nationally acclaimed Marine Aquarium.  Its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and preserve marine life.  The focus however is mainly on dolphins and sea turtles.
Tourists can interact with the animals as well as attend their training sessions.

Florida’s festivals are also a feature that attracts tourists from all four corners of the globe.  A favorite is the Birding Festival and Nature Expo.  It allows you to learn about the area’s exotic birds and observe many of the species including the ones migrating.  It’s the biggest show of its kind in the United States.

The Moccasin Lake Nature Park is also lovely throughout the year.  While you can view the live flora and fauna you can listen to lectures about alternate energy sources.  Children can participate in interactive demonstrations regarding conservation.

Landmarks
A must for anyone visiting the Clearwater attractions is the Royalty Theater.  It has been successfully refurbished to its 1920s splendor.  It’s a beautiful venue to see and the perfect spot for an evening of opera, dance, magic shows and theatrical performances.

And if you enjoy traveling in order to admire different architectural styles, do see the Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopalian Church.  It was completed in 1913 in the style of Gothic revival.  The exterior is just as impressive as the interior.

Museums
Clearwater attractions include museums of different themes.  The Dunedin Historical Society and Museum is quite interesting.  You’ll find its location important as it sits on an old railroad system which dates back to 1889.  It showcases more than 2,000 items, photographs and a library with 200 volumes relating the region’s history.

Don’t miss the Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History.  It’s not a repetition of what you’ve seen before at other Clearwater attractions.  Its exhibits include archaeological discoveries dating from prehistoric times through the days of the pioneers.  The museum itself sits on an ancient Indian mound and was designed like an old colonial home.
If you’re interested, you can browse through displays of aboriginal Natives’ artifacts as well.

With the arrival of immigrants from all corners of the globe, the town of Clearwater progressed.  In honor of the contributions made by African Americans stands the Pinellas County African American History Museum.  It’s home to a wealth of cultural information and one of the top Clearwater attractions.
