Denver Overview

If you want to experience natural beauty in a cosmopolitan setting, then Denver’s the place for you. With 300 days of sunshine a year, Denver is an ideal place to visit, whether it’s in the middle of summer, or the dead of winter. The city’s origins date back to 1858, when prospectors from Georgia came across the plains of the Colorado territory and discovered gold. The word got out, and people from all over the country flocked to find their piece of wealth in this mountainous region; they walked, traveled in wagons, and even pushed wheelbarrows to get here. A group of prospectors settled down and created Montana City, later to be named Denver. But Denver was not wealthy or prosperous; rather, it became a town filled with crime bosses, gambling and gangs during the late 1800s.

With its prosperity, Denver came to be known as the “Queen City of the Plains” (besides its later well-known name, the “Mile High City”) for its role in the agriculture industry. In its honor, the U.S navy has named several of its ships: USS Denver.

More than just a pretty city, Denver offers something for everyone.
