Ottawa Dining

If you enjoy variety when it comes to cuisine, you’ll have a great time dining in Ottawa.  There’s a restaurant for every taste and every nationality and the prices are quite reasonable.

One of the city’s most visited eateries is the Blue Cactus Bar & Grill.  It offers a delightful mix of southwestern American gastronomy amidst its stylish and upscale décor.  The quiet mezzanine is ideal for couples seeking a quiet corner or business people looking to have some privacy.  If you want to try the top favorite dishes on the menu, you’ll have to go with crab cakes from the Bayous, jumbo prawns or the filet mignon.  And you definitely don’t want to miss the refreshing Margaritas.

Another excellent establishment when dining in Ottawa is the Courtyard Restaurant.  It’s located in a Heritage Building, which was constructed in 1827.  Its elegant ambience attracts diners from around the country.  The food is contemporary in style with nuances of French traditions.  And the décor is classic without too much ornamentation.  The brick walls display colorful works of art, which contrast the lovely white linen tablecloths.  Among the signature dishes the Beef Wellington and rack of lamb are the most ordered items.

And if you’re in the mood for award winning wines to accompany the finest in French gastronomy, then the Luxe Bistro is ideal for dining in Ottawa.   The cellar is home to more than 450 well-kept vintage wines.  But the bar is also known to prepare divine martinis and champagne cocktails that pack a punch.  Start off with steak tartar and continue with the lobster pie or the salmon filet.  They’re not only the highlights of the evening, but also the stars of the show.

If you’re hungry for great seafood, don’t miss Coasters Seafood Grill.  Apart from the all-you-can eat mussels, they’ve also gained a well-deserved reputation for serving the best fish and chips in town.  The large and comfortable couches add to the venue’s warm and welcoming atmosphere.  You’ll want to come back for the gourmet pizzas or the steaks.  No matter what you choose to eat, you’ll walk out satisfied.

La Bodega Lounge is another example of outstanding dining in Ottawa.  It sits at the edge of the Rideau River and boasts one of the most amazing wine selections among restauranteurs.  The menu features sublime pizzas made in a creative number of ways.  You’ll like the Greek Pizza made with Feta cheese, olive and anchovies.

Tip:  All desserts are homemade and prepared with imagination.  The Bailey’s Caramel Cream is not to be missed.  You could also try the cream fondue made with Canada’s best maple syrup.  It’s unique and sinfully rich.

For those who enjoy the flavors of the orient, Kinki is the place to go when dining in Ottawa.  It’s home to the city’s acclaimed Asian fusion cuisine and features a modern décor fusing traditional bamboo design with modern and cool bar seats.  If you visit Wednesdays through Saturdays, you’ll enjoy live music entertainment while savoring the wide selection of entrees.  There’s everything from lamb cooked to perfection to tuna tartar.  And if it’s a nice summer night, you can dine on the terrace al fresco.
