Ottawa Shopping

Those who love to shop will find that Ottawa is an amazing place.  It’s home to the oldest department store, the oldest mall and superb specialty shops.

Shopping Centers and Markets
ByWard Market is not just a place for Ottawa shopping, but a historic site.  It was built in 1926 and was renovated several times.  But it still maintains its special characteristics and it’s home to more than twenty retailers, a food market offering products from around the globe, a chocolate factory and a bounty of artisans just to name a few of the things you can expect.

If you enjoy large malls, you’ll have a great time at the Place d’Orleans Shopping Center.  Its magnificent architecture is a must see in person.   And its collection of more than 200 shops is a buyer’s paradise.  It features large department stores as well as specialty boutiques and a fabulous baby-sitting service so you can spend the entire day partaking in some Ottawa shopping.

Another outstanding establishment for Ottawa shopping is the St. Laurent Shopping Complex.  It’s the largest in the area with 195 stores.  There’s a movie theater where you can enjoy second run films, a fitness center and a large entertainment section.  Among the vast array of retailers you have Toys R Us, Sears, Sony Store and The Bay.  The Bay has been in business since 1670 and offers everything you can imagine from every type of perfume to designer clothing and carpets.  They also house a travel agency and several restaurants.

And if you would like to do your Ottawa shopping within a unique environment, then Rideau Centre is the perfect choice.  Its rooftop park allows guests to enjoy panoramic vistas of the canal, the Parliament buildings and Chateau Laurier.  During summer, the park is blanketed with red tulips making it a most enjoyable site.  Aside from this feature, the center is home to 180 shops and a cinema.

Specialty Shops
No matter where you go to do your Ottawa shopping, you won’t find an establishment as different as the World Poker Depot.  It’s the country’s premiere spot for buying everything relating to the game of poker.  They stock all types of items from tables to chip sets.  It’s a fun option for Ottawa shopping especially if you’re into this card game.

If you love to read or collect books, you won’t want to stay away from the Book Market.  It offers 7,000 square feet of books and magazines in more than 100 categories.  It’s said to be the best organized bookshop in the world and it’s cheaper than most books stores by 40 to 80 percent.

And to find books that deal with economic, political or international affairs, check out Octopus Books. It showcases specialty edition books on al the most popular and important topics.  If you're a book junkie, it’s another unique venue for Ottawa shopping you won’t want to miss.

And if you’re looking for a treat, Jubilee Fine Jewelers will impress.  They’re the top boutique for Ottawa shopping when it comes to jewelry. They feature name brands like Mikimoto, Chopard and Bvlgari.  They stock Polar Bear diamonds, Montblanc pens and fine watches like Rolex, Cartier, and Omega among many others.
