San Juan Dining

For wonderful jazz, food, and drink make a reservation at Café Carli Concertos. Live music is played every night (except Sunday when they are closed) and reservations are recommended because the tables fill up quickly. Plan on spending a few hours sipping wine and listening to jazz. Carli is the main performer at the restaurant and entertains with different variations of jazz throughout the night. This small and intimate setting is casual and the food is a wonderful mix of the ocean and mountain’s best. Enjoy a large plate of tapas or shrimp and scallop mousse. Bartenders will mix up any drink creation you can think of (and will even let you taste test a few new ones).

For a taste of the Caribbean enjoy a high-class lunch at one of San Juan’s fanciest restaurants, Pikayo. Located in a museum of breathtaking artwork and pristine gardens, it is the perfect setting for a relax lunch. The servers are excellent and will gladly offer suggestions from the menu as well as pair wines to match your meal. Ask for the Grandules Risotto, a favorite among visitors, as well as their famous chocolate soufflé.

For taste of international food visit Augusto’s Cuisine, located in the Marriott hotel. Although it is pricier than some of the restaurants in San Juan, the food, wine list, service and atmosphere are top notch. Try the duck or salmon and be sure to ask for dessert. Waiters are attentive and willing to help with any wine and dish parings. Their wine list is extensive and the food is cooked just the way you like it.

Be sure to make reservations a few days in advance for Morton’s of Chicago. If you want a melt-in-your-mouth steak this is the place to eat. Inside the Caribe Hilton, Morton’s serves up streaks as big as the plate and has a sophisticated wine list to choose from. The staff is friendly and makes sure every detail is perfect during your evening.

The Dragonfly pulls inspiration from Asia and the Caribbean when creating its flavorful dishes. Asian paintings, candles and dim lights create a romantic and intimate setting. Make reservations because this small restaurant fills up fast. Try the halibut or 5-spice duck cooked to perfection. Duck nachos are a fun twist on an American favorite. Tip: No shorts or skirts allowed.
