Singapore Dining

Dining in Singapore is something travelers smile about when returning from their trip. The price of dining out is quite reasonable, and the variety will amaze you. Dining in Singapore offers restaurants from many parts of the world as well as South East Asian and Chinese. The cuisine of Singapore is somewhat exotic with specialties on the menus like stingray, seafood prepared in specialty clay pots, and of course, rice, an important staple of Singapore gastronomy, with dishes similar to those of Vietnam and Thailand.

In Singapore you can find “no frill” inexpensive restaurants offering great buffets and delicious food; you can also find elegant restaurants serving creative dishes with exotic flavors, at reasonable prices.

Inexpensive
A great example of good food at great prices is the Andhra Curry, an Indian restaurant serving simple food, but quite tasty. Locals love the excellent service and the mutton prepared with curry.

The Blue Ginger is another fabulous place, serving great food in a home-like atmosphere. Locals come here for the grilled chicken coated with coconut and seasoned with aromatic herbs.

Bras Basah Food Court is a fun place to dine. It’s home to some of the best Malay and Chinese traditional foods, and a great place for dining in Singapore.

The East Coast Seafood Centre is a must; you’ll find eight great seafood restaurants overlooking the Straits of Singapore, all offering outdoor seating.

Tip: The specialty at these restaurants is crabs prepared with chili and prawns prepared in a secret recipe combination of liqueurs.
For people who do not like seafood, they serve a great chopped chicken.

And for that famed rice noodle, Joo Chiat Place is a must. The chef’s recipe goes back to pre-war times. It’s a well-kept secret of dining in Singapore.

When you see the lines out the door of Ocean Curry Fish Head you’ll wander what’s so good that people are willing to wait up to an hour. Locals flock to this place to enjoy fish heads prepared and served in special clay pots. The fried calamari is also fantastic. And if you’re a vegetable fan, try the water spinach, a staple of Singapore cuisine.

De Paolo Gastronomia is a great place for a change of pace. You’ll find the tastiest pizzas, sandwiches, salads. You may also sit at one of the beautiful outdoor benches and enjoy a picnic.

Romantic
The Peach Gardens is an acclaimed Chinese restaurant, boasting some of the best views as well as great food. It’s the best for dining in Singapore. The ambience is elegant yet unpretentious. The chef prepares a variety of dim sum, goose, duck and great seafood. His lobster noodles are the rave.

Au Jardin Les Amis is a popular restaurant, appearing on most lists as the place for fabulous French cuisine. Its beautiful botanic gardens are a great backdrop to the delicious dishes it serves; you’ll find authentic traditional treats like frog legs, and chicken in wine sauce.
