Yosemite National Park Overview

If there was ever a place on earth beyond words, Yosemite National Park fits the bill. You may have already seen some of its beauty through the photographic works of Ansel Adams, but there’s nothing like seeing it for yourself. The activities here are all about its magnificent outdoors. However you don’t have to be a mountain climber or a skier to enjoy a vacation at this grand destination. No matter what your age or what physical condition you’re in, this destination is suitable for all – and it may just turn out to be the experience of your life.

The Park remains open all year round. It’s quite hot in summer but remember that the higher up you go the lower the temperature drops. It’s a good idea to bring a sweater or a heavy jacket along. Winter is ideal for skiing, snowboarding and ice-skating.

Within Yosemite National Park you’ll find that every activity is available for all ages. There are evening stroll programs and activities for children. You can go extreme or beginners’ levels. No matter what you choose to do you’ll have a great time.

Reaching Yosemite National Park is easy. It’s only 3 and half hours drive from San Francisco. Its incomparable majesty has earned it the privilege of being a World Heritage Site.

Yosemite National Park is known throughout the globe for its granite cliffs, tall waterfalls, streams and gigantic Sequoia trees. The Park is a plethora of biological diversity. Elevations range from 2,000 to 13,114 feet.

El Capitan is the most popular destination for rock climbers. This impressive granite cliff is said to guard the entire valley. It boasts a vast selection of climbing routes and is accessible throughout all four seasons. Other challenging and fun climbing domes include Sentinel Rock and Half Dome.

A visit to Yosemite would not be complete without taking in the sights of enormous Sequoia tree groves. They’re the largest and tallest trees in the world. It’s also believed that they’re the oldest.

White water rafters will have a blast with the two river systems that originate at the Sierra Nevada. Curved river canyons make the experience somewhat more treacherous but totally exhilarating.

If you’re not an adventure seeker simply stroll and admire the loveliness of the scenery. Yosemite Falls ranks as the highest of North America. When the sun hits the water you’ll want to have your camera on hand. It looks like an array of crystals cascading down the side of a mountain. Don’t miss Ribbon Falls with its sharp vertical drop.

There’s plenty to add to your marvelous time. You can go biking, driving or camping. You can pamper yourself at one of the local spas or dine at one of the many fine restaurants. Most of these places offer California cuisine. This delightful gastronomy includes fresh seafood and right off the grill steaks.

And perhaps you haven’t thought of shopping as another great activity of Yosemite National Park. But here you’ll find Park inspired gifts, Native American pottery, sports-wear and fine art.

Take plenty photos. Words will fail to describe it all.
